Posted

Mayville overcame an early deficit with a five-run sixth inning to escape Omro with a 6–5 win on Thursday, May 22, extending their winning streak to 11 games.

Trailing 5–1, the Cardinals stormed back in the sixth with key contributions from Tanner Schneider, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI’s, and Mason Gerth, who added an RBI single. Weston Teeters doubled and scored, while Brady Zitlow and Austin Thoreson each collected hits and runs in the pivotal frame.

The Cardinals capitalized on Omro’s miscues and aggressive baserunning, swiping four bases on the night. Joe Promersberger also added an RBI and run scored despite not recording a hit.

Gerth went the distance on the mound, scattering nine hits and striking out two without allowing a walk. Only three of Omro’s five runs were earned.

Mayville (17-4, 9-3) continues to build momentum heading into the postseason with a rematch at home against Omro on Tuesday. The Cardinals take it on the road in a non-conference match against Tosa East on Thursday, May 29.

Mayville, the No. 2 seed in the conference, earned a first-round bye in the tournament and will host the winner of No. 7 Pardeeville vs. No. 10 Living Word in WIAA Division 3 Regional play on June 3.
