Cardinals Rally Late but Fall Short at Campbellsport

Posted

A tough first inning proved too much to overcome for the Mayville Cardinals, who dropped a 7-5 road contest to Campbellsport on Thursday evening, April 17.

Campbellsport plated all seven of its runs in the opening frame, taking advantage of six hits and a walk before Mayville could settle in. From that point on, the Cardinals' pitching and defense tightened up, but the early damage held.

Austin Thoreson led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Brady Zitlow added two hits and an RBI, while Kevin Keller went 3-for-3 with a double and drove in a run. Joe Promersberger also chipped in an RBI single late in the game as the Cardinals tried to mount a comeback.

Thoreson started on the mound but was relieved after the first inning by Weston Teeters, who tossed five strong innings of scoreless relief, allowing just two hits and striking out six.

The Cardinals outhit the Cougars 12-8 and left 10 runners on base in the loss, which drops them to 5-2 on the season.

Cardinals Fall to Campbellsport in Tough Home Loss

The Mayville baseball team ran into a hot Campbellsport squad on Tuesday night, falling 13-3 at home in a game where defensive miscues proved costly.

The Cougars capitalized on five Mayville errors and used a string of multi-run innings to build a lead the Cardinals couldn’t overcome. Despite totaling six hits, Mayville struggled to generate consistent offense and left runners on base in key moments.

Bobby Held scored twice and doubled, while Blake Peterson reached base twice and drove in a run. Weston Teeters added an RBI, and Austin Thoreson doubled as part of a two-hit night for the middle of the order.

On the mound, Mason Gerth started and went four innings, with Teeters, Held, and Kevin Keller pitching in relief. The Mayville staff combined for eight strikeouts in the loss.

Looking ahead, the Cardinals gear up for a packed week of baseball, starting with a home matchup against Waupun (8-1, 4-0) on Monday, April 21. They hit the road Tuesday to face St. Mary’s Springs (1-3, 1-3), then welcome Springs to Mayville on Thursday, April 24, for a 5 p.m. first pitch. The week wraps up with a non-conference trip to Hustisford/Dodgeland on Saturday, April 26, with first pitch set for 10:30 a.m.
