The Mayville Cardinals took to the field Friday evening, August 15, at Ray Dunn Field to open their football season with a preseason scrimmage. Facing off against Lake Country Lutheran and Brookfield Academy, the Cardinals worked through plays on a half field, giving both the offense and defense valuable early-season reps.
The offense moved the ball efficiently, while the defense showed its strength by holding its ground against both visiting teams. The JV squad also had the chance to suit up in pads and take snaps, gaining early game-like experience.
With temperatures running warm, coaches emphasized safety, rotating players in three-snap intervals, and ensuring frequent water breaks. The scrimmage gave athletes, coaches, and fans a first look at the 2025 Cardinals, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
The Cardinals start their season with non-conference play on Friday, August 22, at 7 p.m. on the road at Cedar Grove-Belgium High School.
