The Mayville boys soccer team faced a busy week with three matches in four days, hosting Columbus and St. Lawrence Seminary at Ribbens Memorial Field with a road trip to Ripon in between.
Columbus 6, Mayville 1
Mayville opened the week Monday, Aug. 31, hosting Columbus in a battle of the Cardinals at Ribbens Memorial Field.
Columbus pulled away for a 6-1 victory, but Mayville was able to break through offensively with a team effort. Sophomore Colin Koepsell connected with senior Landon Bender, who finished the opportunity for Mayville’s lone goal.
Ripon 5, Mayville 2
The Cardinals had a quick turnaround, traveling to Ripon Tuesday, Sept. 1, for their second match in as many days.
Mayville found the net twice but came up short in a 5-2 loss.
Koepsell helped create the Cardinals’ first goal, setting up sophomore Grant Herschleb, who finished the connection.
Senior Nick Wojahn provided Mayville’s second goal after drawing a free kick from approximately 30 yards out. Wojahn took advantage of the opportunity, sending the free kick over the goalkeeper and into the net.
St. Lawrence 5, Mayville 0
