$10K Grant to Support Programs Focused on Healthy Families and Academic Success

If you look through the glass into The Open Door Coffeehouse in Mayville, you’ll see a bustling atmosphere with friends engaged in conversations, students bent over their books, and speakers holding the attention of the room.
And while that may happen at other coffee shops, this one is different. The conversations, learning and presentations are the primary purpose for being open – not selling coffee.
“The coffeehouse atmosphere gives us a welcoming space for our true mission,” said Amber Schraufnagel, executive director of The Open Door. “We work to provide prevention, intervention, and restoration to families and individuals through free mentoring and partnerships.”
What that looks like is tutoring for high school students, an after-school program for more than 40 children, and 100 adults gaining new parenting skills. To help support these efforts, the O’Reilly Automotive Foundation, Inc., the philanthropy arm of O’Reilly Auto Parts, has awarded the organization a $10,000 grant.
“We understand that social service resources are scarce everywhere, and particularly in rural areas,” said Julie Gray, president of the O’Reilly Automotive Foundation, Inc. “The people in Mayville haven’t let their small size keep them from achieving big things for their community. They essentially got started and tackled each need and challenge as it’s come their way.”

The Open Door Coffeehouse’s grant is part of a year-end round of giving for the O’Reilly Foundation, which awarded $1 million across 35 nonprofits nationwide. It’s the largest distribution of funds from the foundation since its founding in 2020.
