Jerry Kleinke


Jerry Kleinke of Port Washington passed away at Lawlis Family Hospice Center in Mequon Thursday morning, November 18, 2021. He was 83 years old. Jerry was born in Fond du Lac on July 7, 1938, son of Wilbur and Marie Oppermann Kleinke. He grew up on the family farm in New Fane and attended local schools, graduating from Kewaskum High School, Class of 1956.On December 13, 1975, Jerry was united in marriage with Jean Schultz at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Washington. Together they raised four children. Mr. Kleinke was a machinist at Bolens Mfg., retiring in 2008, and later took on a position at Port Washington High School as a custodian.A faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Port Washington, Jerry had served as an elder, a deacon and an usher. He was a longtime member of the Port Washington-Saukville Jaycees. Jerry enjoyed working outside, playing baseball, shooting darts and playing cards… especially a good game of sheepshead! More recently, he loved spending time with his grandkids. His family will always remember Jerry’s love of sweets and his optimistic outlook on life.Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jean; children, Daniel (Michele) Bichler of Random Lake, Cherie (Steve) Ewig of Port Washington, Phil (Lisa) Kleinke of Campbellsport and Scott Kleinke of Jackson. He is further survived by grandchildren, Zach Kleinke, Amanda Bichler, Brad Bichler, Alysia Gibes, Hunter Kleinke and Taylor Kleinke; greatgrand children, Xavier and Scarlet Kleinke; sister, Welda (George) Simousek of Sun City West, AZ; brothers, Jim (Dianne) Kleinke of Hot Springs, AR and John (the late Diane) Kleinke of Fond du Lac; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, at St. John’s Lutheran Church 217 Freeman Drive, Port Washington. Rev. John Klieve will preside. Ethel Kathryn Knoeck

Ethel Kathryn Knoeck


Ethel Kathryn Knoeck (née Walters), age 93, of West Bend passed peacefully on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, with family by her side. She was born on May 28, 1928, to Joseph and Edna Walters. She was born in Chicago and lived there until moving to West Bend with her mother and brother when she was a young child. Along with being a wife and mother, Ethel worked as a library aide for many years sharing her love for books with students in the Kewaskum and West Bend schools.Ethel was a long time member of the “Red Hat Society”. She enjoyed the luncheons and gatherings while sporting her red hat. Around the kitchen farm table, Ethel was known for holding the queen of clubs until the final hand during a game of Sheepshead. As a resident of Cedar Bay Health Care Center, Ethel was comforted by praying the daily rosary. She enjoyed reading mysteries and watching them on PBS, playing bingo (and winning many of the prizes!), singing in the choir, playing the handbells, and tooling around in her wheelchair making sure everyone was doing their job.Ethel met Oscar Knoeck, Sr. one day when he stopped by to deliver milk to her house. They soon fell in love and married on June 30,1948. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Joseph Walters, who served in the Air Force during World War II and is listed as MIA (English Channel); her husband, Oscar (and his siblings and their spouses); her grandson, Joel Knoeck; her grand - daughter, Julie Knoeck; and daughter-in-law, Janna Knoeck.The family would like to thank the staff at Cedar Bay Health Care Center, especially Darcie, for their loving care over these past years. Richard “Richie” Otto Backhaus, age 86, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021, at the Samaritan in West Bend. He was born on September 28, 1935, in Kewaskum to Herbert and Selma (nee Miller) Backhaus. He is known in West Bend for owning M& R Bar for 41 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trap shooting. He loved his Packers and especially the Brewers.Richard is survived by his three children, Rashelle (Scott) Wiedmeyer, Kevan and Ryan; his five grandchildren; other relatives and friends.Richard is preceded in death by his loving wife, Marilyn; grandson, Aaron; his parents; three sisters and two brothers.A Funeral Service was held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W. Sandra “Sandy” L. John, (nee Staab), 81, of Kewaskum found peace with the Lord on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. She was born on June 18, 1940, to the late William and Jean Staab. On October 18, 1958, she was united in marriage to Ronald C. John in Mil - waukee. Sandy was a CNA for many years, and devoted her life helping people. She was a member of the Church Veterans and the Red Suspenders. Sandy and Ron loved traveling and have visited many states. She spent a lot of time in the kitchen cooking and baking, and her breads will be missed. Sandy especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.Those Sandy leaves behind to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 63 years, Ronald John; three children, Julie (Kurt) Allison, James (Jenny) John, and Jeff (Sandy) John; eight grandchildren, Ryan (Shannon) Allison, Kyle (Kari) Allison, Justin (Jamie) John, Katie (Cody) Nichols, Alley (Colton Roesel) John, Kasey (Fredrick) Turnes, Nicholas (Ashley) John, and Amberly (Tanner) St. Mary; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Susie; two brothers, Billy and Richard; two sisters-in-law, Candy Kluss and Marilyn Meylor; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her three sisters, Shirley, Patty, and Marilyn.A private family service in remembrance of Sandy will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ.Her devotion to helping others, she donated her body to science.

Paul Arnold Hartmann

Paul Arnold Hartmann


 Paul Arnold Hartmann, 83, of Mayville was called home to be with the Lord on November 16, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.Paul was born on January 29, 1938, in Fond du Lac to Arnold and Stella Hartmann (Desimowich).   He was united in marriage to Joanne Mayer on September 3, 1960, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in LeRoy.    Paul graduated from Mayville High School. He enlisted in the Navy and was a Petty Officer First Class and worked in the engine room. Paul drove forklift at Purity Cheese in Mayville, then was a city mail carrier in Mayville, then worked for Giddings & Lewis in Fond du Lac, and later Paul was hired as meat inspector for the State of Wisconsin. He went on to get various certifications to inspect meat processing plants around Wisconsin.   Paul loved his family and being Mr. Fix-It. He could fix anything or teach you how to get along without it. Sometimes what he fixed was better than new when Paul finished with it. He was a “gearhead” and enjoyed his old car collection, going to car shows, and anything to do with automobiles past and present.    Paul’s main adoration in life was his wife, Joanne. She held it all together. Sadly, Joanne passed away in 2001. Paul and Joanne had a large collection of antiques, especially clocks and dolls. Paul and Joanne are now reunited in heaven and will be together forever.   Those Paul leaves behind to cherish his memory include his three daughters, Chris (Don) Wondra, Paula (Bruce) Stoy, and Mary (Al) Erke; three grandchildren, Katie and Nick Wondra and Paul Erke; brother, Dave (Marge) Hartmann; sisters-in-law, Adeline (Bob) Stommel and Mary Jane (the late Gene) Polster. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.    In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne; sisters-in-law, Margaret (Francis) Hilbert and Anita (Larry) Brockman; and brother-in-law, Leo Mayer.   Mass of Christian Burial for Paul will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (112 S German St., Mayville, WI 53050). Mark A Darge

Mark A Darge


 Mark A. Darge, 58, of Mayville, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021 at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton.   Mark was born on June 16, 1963, the son of Fredrick and Sharon (Bender) Darge in Beaver Dam.   He was a 1981 graduate of Mayville High School.   On September 8, 1995, he was united in marriage with Christine Wagner in Mayville.   Mark had been a welder at MEC, Metalcraft and Signicast.   Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing and archery. He was a very good artist and had been a 4H Leader for the art project for the Lomira Clover Leaves. Mark was also a great craftsman of many projects.   Mark is survived by his wife, Chris; his son, Matthew (Lauren) Jimenez of Oshkosh; and his daughter, Megan Darge of Mayville; his sisters, June (Efrain) Morales of Beaver Dam, Kathy (Dean) Arndt of Mayville, Tom (Sue) Darge of Campbellsport; his in-laws, Charles and Louise Wagner; sisters-in-law, Charlene Juoni of Fond du Lac and Corinne (Bob) Zurad of Franklin. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents.   A Celebration of Life for Mark was held on Sunday, Nov.14, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Horicon American Legion.   The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Aurora Medical Center in Grafton and also to Frisenius Kidney Care Center in Slinger.   The Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville served the family. Donald Lichtensteiger, 90, formerly of Campbellsport, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021, surrounded by his beloved family at Lakeview Assisted Living in Fond du Lac. He was born in Campbellsport on July 9, 1931, the son of Leo and Charlotte (nee Glass) Lichtensteiger. Don served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On October 2, 1954, Don married Mary Ann Ruplinger at St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian. Don worked for Twohig Furniture and Funeral Home for over 40 years doing floor covering and also as a funeral assistant. He enjoyed their summer vacations in Shawano, playing sheepshead, golfing and going to the casino.Survivors include his sons, Steve (Janet), Dennis (Barb) and Chuck (Rhonda); grandchildren, Jodi (Seamus) Garvey, Cheri (Kevin) McCourt, Traci Lichtensteiger, Stacey (Dan) Hall, Joshua (Eileen) Lichtensteiger, Kristi (partner Raven) Weis, Mike (fiancé Kali) Lichtensteiger, Allie Jo (Mike) Hauptli, Drew (Amanda) Lichtensteiger, Ashley (Josh) Blatz and Tom (Amber) Lichtensteiger; 30 great-grandchildren; sister, Amatta Keller; sister-in-law, Audrey Ruplinger; brother-in-law, Don Kuehl; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ann, on September 1, 2020; son, Thomas; brother, Ed (June) Lichtensteiger; sister, Shirley Kuehl; in-laws, Kilian and Mary Ruplinger; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ray Keller, Ralph and Florence Ruplinger, Leander Ruplinger, John and Edna Ruplinger, Cordell and Arnold Amerling, Viola and Wilmer Kudek, Bernice and Frank Fleischman, Helen and Elroy Zettler and Madeline and Leo Zehren.Visitation was held Monday, November 15, starting at 10 a.m. until time of Mass at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 406 E. Nancy L. Brodzeller, 82, of West Bend, formerly of Kewaskum, was called home on Friday, November 12, 2021, at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk, with her family at her side and her loving husband holding her hand. Nancy was born on Oc tober 16, 1939, in Hartford, the daughter of late Christian and Melinda (nee Krahn) Keller. Nancy graduated from Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac, Class of 1958. On December 5, 1964, she was united in marriage to Harvey Brodzeller at Peace United Church of Christ in Fond du Lac.She was employed at Reiter Podiatry in West Bend where she took good care of Dr. Reiter along with his patients. Nancy was an active member of Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum for 53 years where she was involved in the church choir and served on many committees there. Nancy loved to dance, cook, and entertain for her family and friends. Her great grandchildren and family were the light of her life.
