Dr. Anthony “Tony” Strigenz

Dr. Anthony “Tony” Joseph Strigenz, DDS, 87, of Kewaskum was born into Eternal Life on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at St. Francis Home in Fond du Lac, WI. He was born on November 25, 1931, to the late Anton and Catherine (nee Hoffer) Strigenz in Milwaukee. He graduated from Custer High School and went onto Milwaukee State Teacher’s College, then graduated from Marquette University Dental School in 1955. On August 20, 1955, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betsy” Walker at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wauwatosa, WI. Together they had nine children, all of whom are either physicians or attorneys, of which he was most proud. After serving as a Captain and a dentist in the United States Army in Germany, Tony practiced dentistry for nearly 50 years. He never turned down a patient, whether they had the ability to afford the services or not. He moved his family from Milwaukee to his beloved farm in Farmington in 1969, where he enlisted in his children a strong work ethic. In his free time, he enjoyed polka music and playing the accordion. He especially enjoyed spending time with Betsy, his children and grandchildren around the big farmhouse kitchen table. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Those Tony leaves behind to cherish his memory include his nine children, Deborah Strigenz of Kewaskum, Michael (Mary) Strigenz of Fond du Lac, Mark (Christine) Strigenz of Wauwatosa, Andrew (Christina) Strigenz of Clyde Hill, Washington, Anthony (Diane) Strigenz of Fond du Lac, Elizabeth (Mark) Bensen of West Bend, Thomas (Mandy) Strigenz of Papillion, Nebraska, Timothy (Dierdre) Strigenz of Bozeman, Montana, and Carrie (Greg) Miljevich of Rhinelander; 22 grandchildren, David, Rebecca, Sarah, Daniel, Michael, Catherine, Anna, Adam, Nathan, Alec, Matthew, Scott, Heidi, Elizabeth, Hannah, Ally, Quinn, Grace, Evelyn, Sophie, Ella, and Max; three great-grandchildren, Belle, Miles, and Emmie; his sister, Maryanne New; two brothers-in-law, David (Thelma) Walker and Thomas II (Mary Jean) Walker; a sister-in-law, Mary (John) Closs; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy Strigenz; his brother, Ken (Pat) Strigenz; and his two brothers-in-law, Wade and John Walker. A Mass of Christian Burial in remembrance of Tony will be held on Monday, September 2, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. Michaels Catholic Church, 8883 Forest View Road, Kewaskum, WI. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Monday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. A special thank you to the staff at St. Agnes Hospital and Father Strand for all their help and care. James R. “Jim” Bauer

James R. “Jim” Bauer, 75, of Kewaskum, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk, with his family at his side. Jim was born on May 27, 1944, in West Bend, the son of the late Alvin and Rose (nee Devidek) Bauer. On October 16, 1971, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Thill at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend. Jim loved gardening, mowing the lawn, playing cards, sheepshead and his most beloved game, Coufere. He could predict a snowstorm better than any meteorologist around and he enjoyed gambling and going on daytrips with JoAnn and their friends. Jim loved going out to eat and always had a good joke to tell. Those Jim leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, JoAnn; three children, Jennifer Sheehy (Steven Rindt) of West Bend, Thomas Bauer of Kewaskum, Michael Bauer of Kewaskum; his mother-in-law, Ann Thill; his in-laws, Donald (Cheryl) Thill, Kathleen (Roger) Mertz, and Robert (Diane) Klesmith; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Bauer; a son-in-law, Michael Sheehy; a nephew, Steven Mertz; a niece, Jodi Klesmith; and his father-in-law, Elmer Thill. A Mass of Christian Burial for Jim will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 331 Main Street, in Kewaskum. Rev. Jacob Strand will officiate and burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Kewaskum. Pasewald, 89, of Horicon passed away on August 28, 2019, at the Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam. JoEllen was born on January 13, 1930, to Merlin and Alvina (Herbst) Dasenbrock in Dodge County. She was united in marriage to Donald Pasewald on September 11, 1948, at St. Stephen Church in Horicon. Donald preceded her in death in 1991 after 43 years of marriage. JoEllen graduated in 1947 from Horicon High School. JoEllen worked for the Weyenberg Shoe Factory in Beaver Dam and retired with 33 years. She enjoyed traveling with her friends to various locations, playing cards, and bird watching in her backyard. Most of all she loved being around her family. She was a lifelong member of St. Stephen Church in Horicon and served on the altar guild. JoEllen was a dedicated 63-year member of the Horicon American Legion Auxiliary, serving many offices and duties. JoEllen is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Bruce) Spittel of Horicon; grandchildren, Melissa Thorson of Wauwatosa, and Casey (friend Sasha Hinrichs) Spittel of Horicon; great-grandchildren, Caleb Spittel and Emma Spittel; her brother, David (Doris) Dasenbrock of Bowie, MD, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; a sister, Marilyn Griepentrog; and a brother, Peter Dasenbrock. A visitation will take place on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at church. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen Ev. Oechsner, Jr., 80, of rural Mayville, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2019, at his home. Arnold was born the son of Arnold and Edna (Wild) Oechsner on September 30, 1938, in Mayville. He was a 1957 graduate of Mayville High School. Buddy was a veteran of the US Army Reserves. On August 6, 1957, Buddy was united in marriage to Marilyn Scheberl. Together they raised three sons on the homestead farm. After the unexpected passing of Marilyn, he was then united in marriage to Margaret “Maggie” Ries on November 4, 2006. Maggie passed away in 2013. Buddy was united in marriage to Margaret “Maggie” Bunkoske on August 19, 2016. Buddy spent his life taking care of the land he loved on his family’s farm. That proud tradition is still being carried on by his sons. He retired from Knowles Produce in 2009, and he served on the Board of Directors for Knowles Produce for over 28 years. Buddy was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in LeRoy and also attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Fond du Lac. In his spare time, Buddy had a deep passion for polka music and dancing. He was on the Board for the “We Love to Dance Club”. Maggie and Buddy traveled all over Wisconsin and cherished the time spent dancing together and the friendships they made along the way. He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Maggie” Oechsner of Mayville; his sons, Daniel (Sonia) Oechsner of Brownsville, David (Cheryl) Oechsner of Brownsville; and Dennis (Jenifer) Oechsner of Brownsville; his stepchildren, Joseph (Rene’ Kohn) Bunkoske of Beaver Dam and Andrew (Jessica Gardner) Bunkoske of Beaver Dam; his grandchildren, Nathan (Mickey) Oechsner, Nina (Kyle) Olson, Melissa (Luke) Riehbrandt, Tanya (Landon) Schoenemann, Kendra (fiancé Trevor Apfelbeck) Oechsner, Marlena (special friend Dustin Melius) Oechsner, Alan (Tabbitha) Oechsner, Dedra Oechsner, Ashley (Dan) Ernst, Gabrielle (Tony) Gallitz, Robert Mischker; his great-grandchildren, Natalie Oechsner, Jonathon Riehbrandt, Grace Riehbrandt, Ethan Oechsner, Anthony Oechsner, Carson Gallitz, Jedidiah Melius, and Olivia Dettloff; his step-grandchild, Lane Joseph Bunkoske; his sister, Elaine Ottery of Fond du Lac; his uncle and aunt, Norman and Florence Feucht of Fond du Lac. Fr. Tom Biersack presiding at St. Andrew Catholic Church in LeRoy. Entombment took place at the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Fond du Lac. Foreman, 75, of Mayville passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019. Carol was born the daughter of Clarence and Esther Schaumberg on December 8, 1943, in Hartford. She was currently employed at the Bethesda Thrift Store in Horicon. Carol had previously worked at Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation and Eagles Wing’s Care Center in Beaver Dam. She was member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mayville. Family was important to Carol and she loved the time spent with them especially her grand and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in taking care of her home and enjoyed making sure it stayed that way! Carol also enjoyed sports and watching the Milwaukee Brewers and the Minnesota Vikings. Carol is survived by her daughters, Carey (Bob) Schneiter of Mayville, Chris (Mark) Margelofsky of LeRoy, and Connie (Duane) Wellner of West Bend. Her eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Elaine Kollmansberger of Mayville. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. Joan Malson

Joan Malson

Joan Knickel Malson, 90, of Fond du Lac, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019 at her home in Fond du Lac. She was born on December 13, 1928 in Campbellsport, the daughter of Martin and Lazetta (Schaefer) Knickel. Joan married Robert “Louie” Malson on December 28, 1954. They were an inseparable couple and friends say they could always find them together, on their motorcycle, at races, with friends at the lake, or just hanging with family. They loved and lived life fully. Louie passed away on August 14, 1972. Joan served most of her career as Executive Secretary to Superintendents of Schools in Fond du Lac. First, Superintendant Mr. Jerry Strupp and Interim superintendent, Mr. Elwood Bilse. And later, Superintendents Dr. William Halverson and Dr. Alan Osterndorf. Her first “boss” in 1956, was Mr. R.B. Woodworth, followed by Mr. Frank Sabish. Joan retired from the Fond du Lac School District in 1990 after 33 years of service. Joan spent the next almost 30 years living life fully. She traveled often, and loved anything that involved new experiences. Joan was everyone’s favorite Aunt. She loved children, and found any excuse to pick them up and go to the park, hike the Kettle Moraine, go for a ride for Ice Cream, or anything a kid would like to do. Joan always knew the best and most “fun” things to do. She loved playing and vacationing with them. She loved them all, and they knew it. She never grew “old”. She carted her nieces and nephews around, and when they were too old to play, her “great” nieces and nephews, and in recent years, her great- great nieces and nephews. And if they were all busy, she found children and grandchildren of friends to have fun with. She was Aunt Joan to them all. She had boundless energy. Joan had many dear friends. She kept in touch with high school friends from Campbellsport and her college friends from Lakeland College. She traveled extensively with many of them. She had many more friends from her years with the School district. She loved family and genealogy, and regularly spoke with her cousins scattered around the country. Her great niece Kristina and Joan spent hours going over family trees and photos, and contacting relatives for more information. Joan knew it all and could remember everyone. Joan loved being with her extended family. They spent every Sunday afternoon golfing and Sunday evening dinners together for most of their lives. Joan lost her friend and sister-in-law, Jean, just a few weeks ago, and now she was the last of her generation of the Knickels and Malsons. Joan is survived by her nieces and nephews, (Bruce and Jean’s children) Mark Knickel (Mark’s wife Elizabeth deceased) of Fond du Lac, Steven (Barbara) Knickel of Campbellsport, Jill Wagner (Scott Koerwitz) of Fond du Lac, Nancy (Gary) Bindas of Campbellsport; her great-nieces and nephews, Kristina (Knickel) and Mike Meilahn, and their children Alayna, Aydan and Aydryan. Katrina Knickel of Campbellsport; and Michael Wagner (Jennifer Karpinsky), and Stephanie (Chad) Kraus and their children Gabriella and Lucas. She is further survived by Louie’s nieces and nephews and their families, (Mabel and Victor Treffert’s children) Patricia, Richard, Geraldine, Thomas, William, Barbara, Kathleen; (Delphine and Ray Schmitz’s children) David (JoAnn); (Phyllis and Harold Erickson’s children) Michael and Judy (Jim) Feyen; and (Bernard “Benny” and Olga Erickson’s children) Jon (Kay) and Joey (Amy). Several of the Malson nephews have pre-deceased Joan. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Lazetta Knickel, Louie’s parents, Peter and Mary (Schmitz) Malson, her husband, her sister, Joyce Knickel, in 1969, her brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Jean Knickel. She is also predeceased by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and their spouses. The family would like to thank Joan’s dear friends, Bob and Jane Shirek and their daughter, Annie, for their love for Joan, and the support and special care they showed for Joan and her family in Joan’s last weeks. The family would like to extend a special thank you to nurses and staff of Agnesian Hospice of Fond du Lac. Their expert care and concern allowed Joan to remain in her home to the end. Also a special thank you to Dr. Strong of Agnesian clinic whose loving care and concern for Joan made her transition peaceful. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 29, at 5 p.m. at Church of Peace UCC, 158 S. Military Road, Fond du Lac. Rev. Jack Kraaz will officiate and inurnment will be at a later date in Union Cemetery, Campbellsport. Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, from 3 p.m. until time of service at the Church of Peace UCC. Robert M. Sparks

Robert M. Sparks

Robert M. Sparks, 80, died July 1, 2019, in Mesa, AZ. Robert was born April 3, 1939, in Canton, OH, the son of Charles E. and Elsie G. (nee Reigle) Sparks. He graduated from Kewaskum High School and UW-Madison. Robert married Barbara Ann Reinke in Kewaskum on October 24, 1964. Robert was vice president of purchasing at Regal, international sourcing at Regal, semi-truck driver, and security officer at Brinks. He retired last year. Robert was a Boy Scouts of America scout leader, Robert belonged to the Kewanis Club, Hon-E-Kor golf leagues, Wings Over Wisconsin. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, golfing, and going out for dinner. He was an excellent saxophone player and played in “The Kool Gents” band in the 1970s. Robert was a wonderful father. Survivors include his brother Jim (Mary, nee Naus), son David (Karen), daughter (Courtney Sparks-Wagner (Joe Wagner); grandchildren, Evan Wagner, Gabriel Wagner and Kaitlin Sparks; and his step-son, Jesse Byers. Preceding Robert in death were his mother, Elsie Sparks; his father, Charles Sparks; his first wife, Barbara Sparks; his second wife, Kimetha Byers-Sparks; and his in-laws (Barbara’s parents), Francis and Hedwig Reinke. Services for Robert will be held Friday, September 6, at Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum beginning at 6 p.m. The family will greet relatives and friends from 4-6 p.m. There will be a short burial service at the Peace Church Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 7.

Visitation:  Monday, Aug. 26, 2 to 5 p.m.   Memorial Service:  Monday, Aug. 26, 5 p.m.  Place:  Koepsell Funeral Home in Beaver Dam Kim Mittelstadt On Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, Kim Mittelstadt passed away peacefully with his family at his side at the age of 58.  Kim was born on August 2, 1961, to Lorenz “Larry” Mittelstadt and Judith “Judy” Braunschweig Mittelstadt of Fond du Lac. Upon graduation from Goodrich High School, Kim received his law enforcement certification at Fort McCoy.  After one year of service with the Theresa Police Department as Chief of Police, Kim transferred to join the Mayville Police Department where he had a very fulfilling career of 31 years serving the citizens of our local community as a police officer and law enforcement liaison to the Mayville High School. He retired from public service in 2013.  Kim was at home in the outdoors. An avid hunter and superb all around outdoorsman Kim shared his love for nature both in the field and around the grill, always with friends. He shared his knowledge generously and when the day was done regularly welcomed new faces at his table. Kim was unmistakably authentic and kind which is what drew so many to be around him. From the hunting blinds in Wisconsin to the islands of Belize, Kim’s time with us has created friendships that will live in our memories for so many more years than we were able to have him.  During his 17 year marriage to Kathleen Beck, Kim and Kathy raised three sons, Andrew, Daniel and Nicholas.  Kim is survived by his mother, Judy Mittelstadt of Fond du Lac; his three sons and their wives, Andrew and Katrina Mittelstadt of Evergreen, CO, Daniel and Justine Mittelstadt of Oconomowoc, and Nicholas and Maddie Mittelstadt of San Antonio, TX; his sister, Kay Mittelstadt-Lock and husband, Kurtis Lock; his brother, Karl Mittelstadt and wife Kristine Mittelstadt; two beautiful grandsons, Isaiah and William Mittelstadt, sons of Daniel and Justine Mittelstadt; and a large extended family and so many friends. Kim was preceded in death by his father, Larry Mittelstadt.  A memorial service honoring Kim’s life was held on Monday, Aug. 26, at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam.
