Roy F. Mellenthien
Roy F. Mellenthien, 89, of Horicon, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, at the Christian Home in Waupun.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, November 8, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Parish in Horicon with the Rev. Fr. Mark Brandl presiding. A visitation will be held from 9:30 until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place at St. Malachy Cemetery in Horicon with military honors conducted by the Horicon American Legion Post #157.
Roy was born the son of Edgar and Elizabeth (Weinberger) Mellenthien on August 9, 1935.
He was a graduate of Horicon High School.
Roy was united in marriage to Gwen Butterfield on January 16, 1965, at St. Malachy’s in Horicon.

Roy was united in marriage to Gwen Butterfield on January 16, 1965, at St. Malachy’s in Horicon.
Roy honorably served his country in the US Navy. He served 4 years on the USS Bream Killer Sub, while serving he visited Alaska, Samoa, New Zealand, Korea, Philippines, San Francisco, Hong Kong, and Japan.
Following his service, Roy tended bar in Fond du Lac at Brickles bar and then The Off and On in Dodge County, lastly at the Horicon Hotel shortly before it was torn down. He then continued working at John Deere as a supervisor for over 28 years, with his retirement on December 14, 1990.
In his spare time, Roy enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also liked trips to the casinos in northern Wisconsin.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Horicon.
Roy is survived by his children, Colleen (Don) McCallum of Horicon, Brad (Lynn) Mellenthien of Richfield and Claire (Rick) Holz of Watertown; his grandchildren, Abigail, Anna and Cassidy McCallum, Rebecca Pieper, Ashley and Megan (fiance’ Matthew Marchus) Mellenthien, and Emily Haslow; his sister, Mary Ann Herd of St. Ann, MO; further survived nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gwen, in July ’24; his sister, Patsy; and brothers, Kenny and Ralph.
