In Orange And Black To Orange County And Back, A Mid-Centruy American Road Trip
MITCHELL BRADLEY KELLER
Six years before the release of beatnik author Jack Kerouac’s seminal novel On The Road (1957), three Horicon High School graduates took part in what has become a formative American past time: a cross-country road trip. The year was 1951, and three young adults hit the highway for California in a 1929 Model A Ford, which was painted orange and black. The final destination was Royce S. Wrucke’s grandmother’s house, and along for the ride and companionship were his pals Don Miescke and Richard Nelson.
